1st Peter 1-10

1st Peter seems straight forward enough until you try to understand every statement. It would seem to say that the profits of old helped us by forecasting the coming of Jesus and what it would mean to us. You can argue about the timing but, as Peter later writes in 2nd Peter 3:8 “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.” As one of our group so accurately put it “If you exist for eternity, every time is now.”  We also discussed the fact that, though saved, a person may still go through adversity (even if, in the scheme of things, it is only for an instant in eternity) but it can’t be a function of sinning or babies wouldn’t be born with painful aliments. This observation led to a discussion about the sins of the father…there are 24 bible verses on that subject so we will save it for another time but it could be said that it means that children learn to sin from their fathers.
