Mark 11 & 12
We studied the attitude of the Priests towards Jesus. They asked him by what authority he did his miracles. They were, of course, trying to get him to commit blasphemy but he was too shrewd for them and asked them a question they would not be willing to answer. Jesus is often shrewd and even when he sent the apostles out two by two he told them to be “shrewd as snakes.” It is OK for a Christian to be shrewd.
In verse 12 Jesus tells a parable that essentially says the Priests are trying to kill him, which is true. We marveled at the Priests who saw his miracles first hand and yet, out of envy, still wanted to kill him. It is easy to wonder how that could be but as Bartt Stevens pointed out, had they not rejected Christ, the Gentiles (us) would not be saved.
