Shabbat Saturday was the Jewish weekly day of rest but over time many rules and regulations were attached to it; rules for cooking and driving and shopping to name only a few of the 39 categories. Many of those rules were adopted by Christians; when I was young, only very essential stores would stay open on Sunday and if you cut your grass, the noise it made was considered rude by the neighbors, but Jesus reminded us that it was to be a day of rest, not a day confining restrictions.
