The Book of Romans

Today we started Romans. Paul wrote Romans between 57 and 58 A.D. while in Corinth. It is thought to have been written to the Christians already in Rome but also to future Bible readers as it is a summary of Christian theology. The word Gospel is the Greek word for “Good News.” It originally meant the Christian Message but about the second century and to this day it has come to mean the books in which the message is set out. Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John; for example, are referred to as the four canonical gospels - the eye witnesses. The importance of Romans can’t be underestimated. It is said that Martin Luther’s efforts to understand Romans gave rise to the Protestant Reformation.
