I have always thought that God created me with a free will to chose to worship him or not. I believe that he knows what I will decide even before I am conceived but it never seemed logical to me that God would create people required to worship him; who wants to be worshiped by puppets. Lately, as our group works our way through Romans, I began to wonder if human logic is applicable here. Romans 8:29 says: “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” I have looked at 60 (yes, 60) translations of that verse and they all seem to say that God not only knew who would be saved but “predestined” them to be saved. To further support that view, one of our members proposed that if it is up to us to chose then, in a sense, we are being saved by our own works. One possible translation, for me, is that God chose those who would be saved but those who are chosen have to believe they are chosen. In other words, I don’t get to be chosen because I believe, I am already chosen and need only believe that I am already chosen.
