Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand

Though the four gospels are very similar concerning this event, it is interesting to consider the view points of the different authors. Matthew had been a Tax Collector and was, therefore, probably educated. Luke, who also wrote Acts, was a Physician and, unlike the other three, a Gentile. Mark was the youngest and was a confidant of Peter in Rome. John is fascinating because he was Jesus’ favorite and he said he wouldn’t die until after the second coming; he is still with us.

The four Chapters concerning Feeding the Five Thousand are very similar though only John and Mark mention that it would cost half a years wages to feed them and only Matthew mentions that women and children were also in attendance. This event reaffirms Jesus' other messages that we shouldn’t worry about what we will eat; it was also a lesson for the apostles who must have marveled as food kept coming from their baskets.

We focus on specific miracles yet every day and every thing is a miracle. We are made from the same atoms as everything else around us but we have one essential difference, we have received the spirit; the realization that we exist. What will you do with that unbelievable gift?
