The Pharisees, always trying to demonstrate that Jesus didn’t support the law, asked Him if it was lawful to divorce as allowed in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 24: 1-4). Jesus said (Matthew 5:32) that you cannot divorce except for sexual immorality (adultery).
It must have been a common issue in those days because after Jesus said you should not divorcee, the disciples said to Jesus: (Matthew 19:10) “If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.”
Concerning the rights of women, in Exodus 21:10-11 Moses said a woman can leave her husband if he fails to provide for her but other than that, women don't seem to have had many rights in biblical times.
