LIVING WATER

The Book of John is unlike the other three gospels in several ways but especially in John's efforts to explain things. For example, when Christ talks about living water in John 7:38, in the next verse John writes: By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.

We discussed the large numbers of people that came to hear him and we remembered the line from the movie, “Jesus Christ, Superstar” in which they sang, “…Why’d you choose such a backward time and such a strange land? If you’d come today, you would have reached a whole nation. Israel in 4BC had no mass communication.” I used to wonder about that myself but realized that at a time when there was no mass communication of any kind, people had to come hear him and see the miracles with their own eyes whereas now, I believe next to nothing I see on TV.
