WILL JESUS DO ANYTHING YOU ASK?

In John 14 verses 12 through 14 Jesus is reported to have said, "...whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing." Taken in context, this is perhaps an admonition to do what he has done rather than a promise of skills you will receive because you believe; further, Jesus said, "...I will do whatever you ask" but in context he goes on to say,  "...so that the Father may be glorified..." which suggests the whatever you do should glorify God; you can't pray for nonsense. Lastly Jesus said, "...ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." Many think Jesus is saying he will help believers to do what he has been doing. This Chapter should perhaps be viewed in light of Matthew 6 wherein when Jesus was asked how to pray, he essential said to worship God, thank God for your food, thank God for forgiveness, and ask God to protect you from temptation and the evil one. As Jesus said, "...for your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

We also conducted a little business in that some members were advised that our group is no longer part of the National CBMC, though we essentially operate by the same goals and guidelines. See Sidebar "AFFILIATION."

I agree with Ron's assessment here, but would add that the context of this must be taken with the verses in the chapter leading up to this point. Also, asking "in my name" assures us that if we ask anything that is in accordance with God's will, it will surely happen.

"In My Name" indicating that the prayer must be in keeping with God's will, is a great observation.
