Todays discussion included The Trinity and how to pray. People tend to think of God as though he looks like Zeus or Moses; a flowing beard and a majestic robe, but what does he look like? According to the bible, Genesis for example, "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them." Also, in John 14:9 when Philip had said, "Lord, show us the Father...," Christ answered "Don't you know me, Philip..." It would seem that God could be flesh and blood, but the bible so often speaks in symbols and allegories that it is hard to know what God looks like. Further, in John 4:24 it says, "God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth." Some wonder what we will look like when we come back to Earth after the end of times; will people with infirmities be made whole? Humans can only see 0.0035 percent of the electromagnetic spectrum and maybe 1% of the visible light spectrum at most; what don't we see?

Concerning Prayer, Mark 11:24 says, "...whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours." Jesus said he would answer prayers in his name; to think your prayers might not be answered is to not believe what Jesus said. The Lord's Prayer illustrates that there is no need for lengthy prayers because God already knows what you need. It suggests that prayers should all be prayers of thanksgiving or perhaps prayers shouldn't be specific; God knows what I need and my ability to know specifically what I need is indeed limited.
