In John 14:12 Christ is talking to the disciples and says, "... whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these..." and he goes on to say, "You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it." Two interesting issues come from these two verses:
1. Does this promise apply to anyone or just the disciples?
2. Do you pray to God or through Christ to God?
Concerning who the promise applies to, I am encourage by the phrase, "...whoever believes in me..." which makes me think it applies to any believer willing to carry on Christ's work. The second question is perhaps answered in John 16:26 where Jesus points out that he will not speak to God on our behalf but by praying in his name, you recognize him as God's son and God will respond favorably.
