MARK - Old Wine Skins

We studied Mark today. Mark 2:21-22 has always confused me a little but we realized that Jesus was speaking directly to the Pharisees not to the dinner guests. The Pharisees are an old garment and old wine skins and the word is new wine and new cloth.

We also discussed the blessing of being able to meet via Zoom and other internet applications even when events keep us from gathering together. Some have even said they like it better but Chuck Kinney made the very good observation that meeting in person provides a level of fellowship that is missing on the two dimensional internet.

We talked about the church's role in politics and how tempting it is to respond when some government leaders seem to be suppressing the church. Some Christians even suggest that, as expressed in the book “The Harbinger,” America’s drifting away from being a God Fearing country is the cause of our national problems and we need to put Christianity back in the forefront of our country, yet others believe the church should stay out of politics. It is hard to ignore a public school system that forbids a student to bring a bible to or even pray at School but is that an issue for the church? We welcome comments.
