We studied the transfiguration today, as written in Mark, Matthew 17, and Luke 9. One thought about the purpose of taking Peter, James, and John to witness Jesus with Elijah and Moses was to demonstrate the combination and compatibility of the Law (Moses), prophecy (Elijah), and the new instructions from heaven, the word, by Jesus. For example, to say that thinking about adultery is the same as actually committing adultery doesn't eliminate the Law of Moses; it clarifies it.
Chuck Kinney pointed out the importance of listening to Jesus (Mark 9:7 Then a cloud appeared and covered them, and a voice come from the cloud: “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”) This is especially relevant today as the media in all its many forms has proven to be unreliable; even nonbelievers are aware that no source can be trusted; however, “This is my Son, whom I love. Listen to him!”
