BLIND from BIRTH

In John 9 the disciples expressed their belief that the sins of a person or even the person’s parents can cause things like blindness and Jesus’ response, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him,” suggests that he understood their belief. Further, in John 5:14, Jesus says to a man he cured, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”

We discussed the impact of sin on us; even if we are saved do we still pay for our sins in this lifetime - do I catch a cold or bump my head because I had a sinful thought or did a sinful thing and even if so, how do we explain the wonderful things that come our way? Surely I seldom did anything nice or even useful; why did so many gifts come my way? I guess we can’t understand God’s plan but perhaps life is a training ground so that we will understand what humans go through and how it shapes them. We also have to remember, as Mike Witzig pointed out, that Jesus speaks about the spirit, not the flesh.
