Bruce Belanger visited us today; Bruce lives in Arizona and is a friend/guest of Chuck Kinney. We discussed sin and its ramifications. Here and in other verses (John 5:1-14) there is a link between sin and bad things happening to you but as Bruce pointed out, things changed after the resurrection. One thought was that bad things happening to you can be a test of faith - when something bad happens do you blame God or suffer with grace.
We also talked about the Pharisees’ unwillingness to accept Christ but as has been said, they were worried about losing their monopoly on piety. Many bad things are done by people trying to maintain their position in the hierarchy of the pack.
