We read about Jesus meeting with a group of Jews with varying beliefs. The Jews felt very special and it would seem they wanted to stay connected to their old beliefs as those beliefs supported their self importance and made them feel, among other things, free. They tried to point out to Jesus how special they were but Jesus told them that they were not free but slaves; slaves to sin and only he could set them free. The message is for all of us and perhaps especially for those who think they are special because the say their prayers and go to church. I remembered being sent to Sunday School is a child and, while I was accumulating knowledge about heaven, it really wasn't registering until I accepted Christ in my late teens. In support of the importance of this Chapter and message, Mike Witzig reminded us of Luke 12:47-48 which says the more you know about Christ the more you will be held to account for your actions.
