JUDAS ISCARIOT
Today we discussed the disciples failure to understand that Judas would betray Jesus even when Jesus pointed it out to them. When in John 13:21 Jesus said, "...one of you is going to betray me." the next verse says, his disciple were at a loss to understand what he meant. So Jesus said, "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." Then Judas leaves and still the disciples don't know what's going on; they think Judas left to go shopping or give some money to the poor. We generally agreed that the disciples couldn't be allow to understand it until later when they received the Holy Spirit or they would have acted to stop it and, in order for all of us to be saved, Jesus had to die on the cross. Interesting that in John 13:38 Jesus tells Peter, "...before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times." Perhaps the message here was, don't be smug because you think you are better than Judas.
